Light House is thrilled to host Yoko Brown, a London-based designer who creates one-of-a-kind pieces ranging from simple shirts to elaborate garments.

She began working in the late 1990s, taking commissions and selling one-off pieces in shops. During this time, Brown focused on deconstructing and reimagining old Jermyn Street shirts.

The fabric they were made from was unlike the modern shirting she was familiar with, as was the finesse of the craftsmanship. This recognition led her to explore shirt design and construction, which in turn inspired her to study tailoring. She reconfigured a number of these shirts, altering the neckline and cuffs and rearranging the patterns, and this set the tone for an ongoing exploration that has informed her interest in high-quality materials and bespoke tailoring.

After years of refinement and cultivating her own personal style, Brown now creates ornate shirts, skirts, and dresses adorned with frills and ruffles, giving her work an elegant nod to Rococo styles while maintaining a modern, casual sensibility.
